Bodhran is a 3-4 year old male Spanish Mastin Cross. Bodhran is a handsome, very large, dark brindle boy, and he stands at about 28 inches to his back, about the height of a kitchen table. Bodhran is a loyal, and affectionate companion, who is attentive to his ‘pack/humans’ , and his environment. He is in excellent health and boarded in the kennels where he has been with his sister since the end of May. His owner had to move away for health reasons, but up to when he went into kennels, he lived on a smallholding with his sister, 3 humans, 2 cats, 10 hens, 1 cockerel and a sheep.
Both dogs were raised as pets in a loving home, with the choice to be indoors or outdoors, except at night when they always slept indoors. He is very friendly, also with children that visited. However his large size could be a bit daunting when he felt playful as he would run and twist and leap around a large garden with impressive agility and speed.
Most of the time he is calm, and spent his days outside with his sister, watching rural life go by, chewing on bones and sticks, and checking in for a tummy rub, a back scratch, or just to lean into you and connect. Playing with his sister, Sheena, and daily walks helped to tire him out. Bodhran and his sister would bark as a visitor approached, but immediately looked for affection once any visitor was accepted in. His best points: He is attentive to his ‘pack’ and his environment, loyal once bonded, and sweet natured and affectionate. When he runs free, his lithe and muscular body is reminiscent of a big cat like a leopard, and is poetry in motion.
Bodhran is not happy around other male dogs, and does not like sheep, so can only be let off the lead if very sure of no livestock or other dogs. Further training & socialising with other dogs would be advisable. Bodhran only has experience of rural life, and found the trip to town to the vet to be microchipped very stressful, so some careful habituation to anything busier than a rural environment may be needed. He may dig a bit in the garden. Ideally Bodhran would be adopted together with his sister, however if not, I feel they would adapt well to new humans, and a new territory/garden to look after.

We can not home dogs from Spain to people who work full time or long hours, unless some sort of doggy day care is offered. They need someone at home a lot of the day, they are not used to being alone for long periods. A dog walker for an hour out of the day is not enough. Leaving dogs a long time on their own means they are highly likely to develop separation anxiety which is distressing for them and everyone in their new home.
Adoption Fee : £275 – to be paid direct to the Spanish rescue to cover travel costs via UK bank account.
